Data and privacy

How Mote v0.2.1 handles local data.

Where data lives

Your to-dos, clipboard history and focus records stay on your Mac. Preferences and timer checkpoints are stored locally too. Mote does not provide cloud sync for these records; your chosen export location may have its own sync settings.

Clipboard recording

Clipboard recording is off by default and starts only when you turn it on. Mote tries to skip content marked as concealed or transient and content from common password managers, but cannot guarantee it will detect all sensitive content. You can pause recording, delete entries or clear the history in Settings.

Recording pauses when a lock event is received, but events can be missed. Pause recording before locking your Mac.

Export and removal

Exports from Settings include to-dos, categories, all clipboard history and focus records, including pinned items and images. Exports are not encrypted and may contain sensitive information. Files saved to iCloud or another synced folder follow that folder's sync settings. Exports do not include all preferences or the current timer state and cannot be imported for a full restore.

You can separately clear to-dos, clipboard history or focus records in Settings. Each action requires confirmation and cannot be undone.
